This is a piccie of me scowling. I’m not really mad or nuttin’, but I tole Robin she couldn’t talk much about the thing she is currently working on, cuz it’s really cool, an I tink it should be a bit of a surprised an stuff. So I tole her dat if she said what it was gonna be, I would scowl at her – and no one wants me to scowl. See the piccie? Withering, huh?
If Robin does decide to post about it, an she looks here, she’ll see me scowling an know dat she better not. ‘least that’s my cunning plan.
It is really cool, though, an if it works out like we want, an we do a lotta work together on it all like we hope to, then it can be really something exciting. You’ll read about it here soon, really!
Also, be sure an stop by the island. The weather is still pretty snowy now, but the upcoming weather looks good an we might see an early spring coming to Livingtree. So if you wanna get some of the fun stuff like snowmobiles, snow people kits, an holiday bears – or jes enjoy our little winter wonderland – now’s the time.
I jes hope my face dun stick dis way.

Sweaters for Adults Finished!
Okay, it took a few extra days, but the Moose Sweaters for adults are ready to go!
Come and get a nice, toasty sweater so you can stay warm through the longest night of the year. (Which happens to be tonight. Solstice is at 1:08 am tomorrow, Eastern time. Happy Solstice! :D )
As it turned out, our Test Market recommended that I do something so that people could pull out the skirt and make a longer sweater, and also decided that they were good to wear with just the Jacket part, and no skirt.
So they have Skirts and Collars optimized for Ladies and Men, a Sweater (shirt icon) that has bulk for added warmth (Looseness slider) and a Jacket so the men's pants won't show through the back, and the ladies can pull the cuffs down over their wrists.
Available now, L$100, Mod/Copy/NO Transfer (but there's a Gift Button on the vendor.) In 19 colors, from Robin (Sojourner) Wood's AV Store, Livingtree (104, 128, 24)

Slight Delay...
I'm afraid that I'm not going to have the Moose Sweaters up for sale today, as I'd planned. Sigh.
There were a zillion things happening on Sunday, and Monday is my day off, so I sat down bright and early today to get the Vendor shots done for the sweaters.
The shots with the female model went as smoothly as can be expected, but when I switched into a male AV, and started to get ready to show the sweater on the guy, I realized there was a problem.
Because of the way the Skirt dives into the back of the male avatar, you could see his jeans where his sweater ought to be.
After some experimenting and playing around with things, I decided that the only way to really fix this is to make a Jacket that can be worn over the Sweater, with solid sweater colors below the waist. Just using the Jacket instead of the Shirt won't work, because you can't make the Jacket bulky. It's always going to look like it's painted on. So I'm afraid that guys will have to wear both pieces.
I also had to make the sides of the Skirt a tad more "poofy", because at a Poofy setting of zero, the pants show when the avatar moves. Using the Jacket it's not quite as bad, but there's a white line in the sweater at that point, so as the Avatar moves, the white appears and vanishes, which is still pretty bad. (I couldn't make the line match perfectly in the various avatar shapes, so this seemed like the best solution.)
So now the package is going to have skirts for both Men and Ladies, as well as Turtlenecks for both, and a jacket layer. Ah well, Ladies can wear the jacket if they want the sweater to come a little farther over their wrists, so I suppose it's not entirely a bad thing.
I'll come back and post pictures when I have them. Right now, I'm working on getting the jackets made for the 17 sweater colors I did.
Perhaps I should have done fewer colors, but they were just so much fun to do!

Free! Holiday Goody Boxes for Kids & Adults!
I have the Goody Boxes for kids and adults out in the middle of Livingtree Island now!
Mari put a funny toy in each of them, and I filled them with clothes, candy and stuff (more clothes, in the adult one, and less stuff.) Seven different things, all told, in each one! (Not counting the parts and variations.) And best of all, once you've unpacked the box, you can empty it out, put your own presents in, and give it to someone else! (It's mod/transfer, just so you can.)
Here's a sneak peek at a couple of the things you'll find in the Adult box. The Kids box has the candle, too, but a different sweater.
Both of these are new designs, and not available anywhere else at the moment, and the box is free! So come and get yours!
It's also snowing now, all over Livingtree. Come play the Elven Drums, sit by one of the campfires, or skate in the snow!
See you there!

Boys Cold Weather Skin Demos
The demos for the boys Cold Weather skins are up in Kick the Can now. I hope you like them. :D
As I might have mentioned, if you want one please IM me, and I'll get it to you. I'm not putting them in the vendors, because I don't want to spend the time making the 54 vendor images required when I could be making things to put in the Freebie Box!
Speaking of which, that's what I'm doing today. I'll post more about it later. :D

First Teaching Script out at the Script Shack
I placed the first of the free Teaching Scripts in the Script Shack a couple of days ago.
I'm not an Expert scripter, but I can figure out how to do most of what I want to at this point, and people have started to ask me questions about scripting; so I thought I'd put some of the basic stuff somewhere that people can get it easily.
Each Teaching Script will come in a prim that has the script running, so people can see what it does. Inside the prim will also be a second script, which isn't running, that will be heavily annotated, and a notecard explaining how to use the scripts to learn about scripting.
To use them, you'll pick up the script box (they're free) and take a look at the running script (it's labeled b). If you see something you don't understand, then open the Annotated script (a), and take a look.
You can also just read the Annotated script, but I'll warn you that it's mostly orange. :D (SL shows script comments as orange text, and all the annotations are comments.)
This first script shows the basic structure of a script, and also explains how to use Touch toggles, timers, how to get a color from an object, and how to generate random numbers.
The next one is going to explain how to get those blue menus to turn up when you touch an object. :D

Winter on Livingtree Island
After two successive winter storms, Livingtree has transformed into a Winter Wonderland. Snow blankets the ground, the river is iced in, and frost coats the trees. A few new, seasonal activities have also cropped up on the island, taking full advantage of the winter weather.
In front of Robin (Sojourner) Wood's AV Store, you can borrow one of Bloodsong Termagant's snowmobiles. Likewise, a kid-sized version is available in the front of Kick The Can. Both can provide you with quite a bit of fun, and can get you some tremendous air if you hit the high points just right. Vendors for both all reside near the snowmobile rezzers.
A three-ring ice skating area is nestled in the area between Polt Pfft (the rocky outcropping on the east coast), the play yard, and the mud puddle. It's full of ramps and other stuff, including a trampoline and a ring of fire!
A holiday gingerbread house has taken residence near Cheep Cheep landing. It looks tasty.
You can make your very own snow angel out in front of Kick The Can, too, as well as play in the poofy snow piles that dot the island.
In the stores are more to add to the fun, including holiday pinwheels in You Know, For Kids, a build your own snowman kit (and some pre-made ones for those with no time to build) at the AV store and Kick The Can, and the cold-weather skins, new kids' sweaters (and an exclusive one in the Kick The Can lucky chair), and the holiday luminaria mentioned below.
More goodies are sure to descend in the next few, as the holiday season continues.

Winter Luminaria!
People have been asking for designs on my Luminaria for quite a while, and I've finally done it. D:
There are eight designs, all driven from the same "touch menu" that allows you to choose the color of the bag, the color of the light, or the state of the Luminaria (Light, Full Bright, Off, Auto Light, or Auto Full Bright (on at dusk, off at dawn.)
They are out now, at the The Broom Closet and Robin (Sojourner) Wood's AV Store. L$100, Copy/No Mod/No Transfer. (But there are gift buttons on the vendors.)
Now that the scripting is done, I'll be making more of them, for other occasions. I think I might also put a sizer in, for people who have extra large builds, and would like extra large Luminaria to put in them. Let me know if you'd like that!

Demos for Girls Snow Skins Out!
I got the demos done for the Cold Weather skins for Little Girls finished and placed in all the places where I sell kids skins.
Because there has been almost no demand for these skins (I think I've sold five, in the week or so that they have been out,) I'm no longer planning to do the whole vendor thing for the boy's skins.
Instead, I'm going to put out some Demos for them, and include a note which says that if any boys want the skins, they can IM me and I'll be delighted to sell them to them.
If I sell a dozen or so, I'll do the vendors. But it takes me most of two days to make the 54 vendor images that would be required, and I'd rather spend those two days doing things that people are interested in!
Speaking of which, there should be Luminaria with Winter Designs on them out sometime today. The designs are all done, and the script for the one-prim versions was finished yesterday. I still need to do the script for the 2-prim and the demo, and get a vendor shot, but that shouldn't take terribly long!
See you on Livingtree!

New Holiday Bear 2007!
Thanks for doing this, Mari! :D
Wanted to let everyone know that I have the new Holiday Bear for 2007 out and ready! It's only going to be sold from now until December 31, so if you want one, don't wait too long.
It's a totally new bear design, mostly sculpties, with joints that act like the joints on a real bear (instructions included) which make it really easy for anyone to move the arms, legs, and head, so you can pose it however you want!
It comes with five different variations in the package; Sitting and Standing, with no animations, and Cuddle, Carry Right, and Carry Left, all with custom animations included.
Mod/Copy/NO Transfer (but there's a Gift Button on the vendor, if you want to get one for someone else.) L$150 at Kick the Can main store, Robin (Sojourner) Wood's AV Store, and everywhere else you can get my stuff.
While you're at Kick the Can, check out the new Snow skins for girls! You, too, can look like you're really outside playing in the snow, with rosy cheeks, a red nose, and ruddy fingers (and toes, knees, and elbows, if you're not dressed warmly enough.) Comes with an attachment that lets you see your breath, so you can take snapshots with that extra touch of realism!

A new amaranth for your home or garden
I've just released an updated version of my Amaranth for your herb garden! This is a taller, more compact version than the previous, made up of more mature plants.
Amaranth
In ancient Greece, the Amaranth was sacred to Ephesian Artemis: it was supposed to have special healing properties and as a symbol of immortality was used to decorate images of the gods and tombs. It is considered astringent and a decoction of the flowers has been administered in spitting of blood and various hemorrhages.
(source: http://www.botanical.com/)
Perfect for autumn, or anywhere a splash of red in the garden might be wanted!
This joins the other herbs and plants currently for sale: basil, black-eyed susan, corn cockle, dandelion, geranium, hawkweed, lavender, mallow, mugwort, mustard, oregano, orchid, parsely, poppies, rosemary, sage, and yarrow - and will look great in one's home or garden.
Affordably priced, and only five prims. Can be modified and transferred, making it great for a gift.

Wow, cool!
I had the opening for my art show on Saturday, an wow what a crowd! We had bunches of people come an see my work, which was really cool.
I tink I most got a kick out of how many people who visited, decided to put on their own kid avatar versions of themselves, and come to the show. Definitely not anything anyone hadda do, but still really nice to see that I inspired em.
I'll be there for about two more weeks, at Livingtree, and I'll be there purty frequently. I also rigged up a system dat allows you to hear a little bit of information about each piccie, too.

New springy ride-on animals!
Brand new from You Know, For Kids - the playground spring animal!
I'll admit - there are many others who've made rocking springy animals on SL, but most use a script that requires you to turn on and off the rocking motion manually, helping to contribute to laggy playyards with rocking, riderless rides that need constant supervision.
Not these! Thanks to some scripting help from Robin Sojourner, these spring animals will start to rock you when you sit down, and -- better yet -- will stop when you get up! No more lag from unused but operating rides! Perfect any place made for child or smaller avatars, and where you don't want any extra lag!
Three super cute varieties available that'll make you smile: a chicken, a duckie, and a piggie!
Get 'em at my main store in Livingtree (Located with Robin (Sojourner) Wood's Kick The Can store. Livingtree), or at my other You Know, For Kids locations in Inner Child Depot, booth 103 (Fletcher) and ClownTown (Masquerade Island).
Look for ridable examples at Livingtree, behind Kick The Can, or Inner Child Depot in their center play yard!

New at the Plant Stand: Black-Eyed Susan
Look for the latest flower to be added to the Plant Stand!
Black-Eyed Susan
The roots but not seedheads can be used much like Echinacea. It is an astringent used as in a warm infusion as a wash for sores and swellings. The Ojibwe used it as a poultice for snake bites and to make an infusion for treating colds and worms in children.
(Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudbeckia_hirta)
It's also pretty, and a great late summer/early autumn splash of color for most environments.
This joina our other herbs and plants currently for sale: amaranth, basil, corn cockle, dandelion, geranium, hawkweed, lavender, mallow, mugwort, mustard, oregano, orchid, parsely, poppies, rosemary, sage, and yarrow - and will look great in one's home or garden.
Affordably priced, and only five prims. Can be modified and transferred, making it great for a gift.
Available at Livingtree (160, 166, 25)

Plant Stand: Four fresh herbs and plants!
Look for four new varieties to our, ahem, growing collection of plants and herbs!
Poppies
The "opium" poppy was known in very remote times. It was originally used only as a medicine, the practice of opium eating having first arisen, probably in Persia. Unexcelled as a hypnotic and sedative, and is frequently administered to relieve pain and calm excitement.
Rosemary
The Ancients were well acquainted with the shrub, which had a reputation for strengthening the memory. On this account it became the emblem of fidelity for lovers. It holds a special position among herbs from the symbolism attached to it. Not only was it used at weddings, but also at funerals, for decking churches and banqueting halls at festivals, as incense in religious ceremonies, and in magical spells.
Yarrow
Yarrow was formerly much esteemed for healing, and its old names of Soldier's Wound Wort and Knight's Milfoil testify to this. Yarrow Tea is a good remedy for severe colds, being most useful in the commencement of fevers, and in cases of obstructed perspiration.
(source: http://www.botanical.com/)
These join our other herbs and plants currently for sale: basil, corn cockle, dandelion, geranium, hawkweed, lavender, mallow, mugwort, mustard, oregano, orchid, parsely, and sage, and will look great in one's home or garden.

Recreations on Livingtree
(You can get a copy of the below in note card form at the information kiosk in the middle of the region.)
While commercial venues keep the region alive, Livingtree is full of recreational activities for both new and veteran residents. The island is home to the following past times.
Fishing
Livingtree Island hosts a Neo-Realms fishing facility. Neo-Realms provides top quality fishing fun throughout Second Life, and we are glad to host Cheep Cheep Landing.
To fish, purchase a fishing rod and some bait - there is a very inexpensive beginners' set that can get you started. Equip your rod by selecting it from your inventory, right clicking, and selecting "wear." Rez the bait can by dragging it from your inventory to the ground. A blue menu will prompt you to load the bait into your rod. Once this is complete, find yourself a comfy spot and type "/1 cast" (without the quotes) into open chat. Different rods and bait catch different fish, there are quests you can participate in and charms you can get to increase your experience. You can use your fishing rod at any Neo-Realms location. You might just see some of the top fishers in Second Life right here in Livingtree, especially during tournaments!
Swimming
While swimming is available anywhere you see water, the Bay of Kids is likely the best overall spot. You can dive from off of Polt Pfft (the large, rocky outcropping near the bay), or take a ride down the waterslide. You can even frolic in the waves next to a pod of friendly dophins! To swim, we recommend The Swimmer HUD (heads up display), available from Waterworks, and created by Siggy Romulus. You do not need it to dive or slide, but it provides swimming animation and splashing sounds when in water.
Camping
A public campsite can be found on the north end of the island. Feel free to sleep over, or simply warm your bones at the campfire!
Archery
An archery target lies not far from camp. You can click the stump to get a free bow and arrow: wear these by selecting them from your inventory, right clicking on each, and selecting "wear." To fire, enter mouselook (M on your keyboard, or select it from your "View" menu), look towards the target, and click your mouse key. After a round, leave mouselook by hitting escape, and check out where your arrows landed on the target. Best of luck on getting a bull’s eye!
Livingtree Drum Circle
A complete drum circle also sits tothe north, behind the Wiccan Learning Center and Broom Closet. Simply click on a drum and choose "sit here" to begin drumming. You can click whatever drum you are playing to change the pattern. Be considerate of others, if people are already drumming, ask if you may join - and do not click other people's drums.
Kayaks
You’ll find a pair of borrowable kayaks available at the Northern end of the river. To use them, simply right click on a kayak and choose "sit here." You will be provided with a paddle which you may use by selecting it from your inventory, right clicking, and selecting "wear." You can use your arrow keys to steer your kayak left and right, as well as forward and backward. Multiple clicks on the up or down arrow can also increase or decrease your speed. We recommend a slow kayak ride down the river in the middle of the region as a great way to relax and recharge.
You may disembark from a kayak at any time, and they will automatically return to their pier after five minutes. You will not be charged any fee for taking these kayaks out on the water; if you enjoy your ride and want a kayak of your own, you'll find a kayak vendor at the kayak pier.
Bird and animal watching
Livingtree is home to many birds, fish and animals. Many varieties of fish, water-going mammals, and other creatures exist in our depths, and several species of fine feathered friends can be found around the island. Look for buntings, an owl, seagulls, a heron, a kingfisher, and other avians. Also enjoy the antics of our three squirrels, Slappy, Foamy, and Hammie, under the Livingtree in the middle of the region.
Look also around the Livingtree in the middle of the region for a birdseed vendor. For L$1 you can buy some seed. Rez the seed by dragging it from your inventory to the ground. Many different birds will be attracted to it.
Exploration
The whole island can be hiked and explored, and there is always something to watch for. Rumor has it there might be a pirates' cave hidden somewhere on the island. Can you find it and claim the treasure as your own?
Skating
A skate park can be found on the roof of Kick The Can. To skate, purchase a pair of skates from the Skoopf vendor, then wear these by selecting them from your inventory, right clicking on each skate (the HUD is optional), and selecting "wear." You can move normally, though page up will allow you to make some exciting jumps, while page down gives you lots of smooth moves. A large slide is also available, allowing you to walk up to get to the park - or slide down to leave.
Play activities
You will find a playground behind the Kick The Can store, designed for child avatars. Two slides, several swings, hanging frames, and other activities are available, as well as a small covered patio for snacks. Also near here is a slip and slide, a tree for climbing, and a big, muddy spot for getting dirty in. Don't worry about messing up your clothes, though: a washing machine is located nearby!
Park area
Look for a park area behind the garden gadgets store. It's a nice place to relax after a stressful day.
Educational activities
To the south in a small, domed building, is Robin Sojourner's texture tutorial, allowing a plethora of tips and advice about creating and using textures within Second Life. Simply follow through the step-by-step tutorials for a great education. For additional materials, look at the library building just to the west of the tutorial, There you'll find books providing more information. You can read them in the library, or buy a copy to take home. To the north you'll also find the Wiccan Learning Center, a nice reading room with several texts covering various aspects of Wiccan beliefs and practices.
Enjoy your visit to Livingtree. All respectful people are welcome on the island.

Kick the can
(This was originally from the Metaverse Messenger. I do a whole page for them, so go an check it out, 'kay?)
Of course, you know as well as I that kids are not allowed in-world -- that is, the flesh and blood teen and younger folks. No, this is about those of us who have chosen to be kids within the world as we know it. I am writing this in an attempt to change that, and give at least a little insight into why me and others like me choose these particular avatars.
Let me use a classic television analogy: in the original Twilight Zone episode, "Kick The Can," a group of nursing home octogenarians start to play the kids game in the title. In the process, they end up back in the halcyon days of their youth.
This is the intent of a majority of those with kid avatars as a primary character. It is a chance to recapture youth lost, or gain childhood experiences not previously had. It is, quite simply, a chance to let one's inner child out to play.
When I joined Second Life, playing a kid was not at all something I had considered doing. I did not even look at that as being an option until meeting two separate real life friends in-world, and seeing them playing kids. We talked a bit about this, and they offered some of their motivations. I liked what they had to say, and it led to me doing the same: a chance at youth and innocence regained within a virtual world.
This is not to say that everyones' intentions are as pure, although those with more erotic interests would appear to be in the minority. For most of us, the idea of a sexual element to any of our young second lives is appalling. Certainly for all that I have talked to about motivations. When we're in character, we are embodying the role. We are kids: acting like adults in a child's body is the last thing we'd be interested in. Applying adult thoughts and motivations to any child is a fool's game - and this applies to Second Life kids just as easily.
So what do we want? What is it that draws people to play kids on Second Life? Simple: we want to hit the playground once in a while, be cared for and nurtured by our in-world families, and have fun with our virtual peers.
We simply want to kick the can.

Memories and imagination
Remember, for a moment, what it was like when you were a kid.
Remember springtimes of your past, when the flowers would bloom, when you could wish on dandelions, and -- for some -- when you would hunt for brightly colored eggs while wearing your new Easter dress. Perhaps, too, you spent a weekend or two selling cookies for your scout or guide troop some Springtime, too.
Remember Summers that would never end, where ice cream, lemonade, and all sorts of summertime treats seemed like they were yours for the taking. Days spent climbing a favorite tree, or daydreaming of clouds that looked like fluffy bunnies.
Remember Autumn: the satifying crunch of a leaf as you leapt into a pile, freshy stacked. Cast your mind back to pumpkins carved and costumes worn for Halloween, or - for those of us in the States - Thanksgiving-time school plays.
Remember wintry nights spent at home, a mug of cocoa at the ready, perhaps catching a "CBS Special Presentation" featuring Charlie Brown, Rudolph, or Frosty. Think of the wonder of lights, whether it was the glow of the family menorah, or the gleam of lights strung around a tree. A time of paper-wrapped presents and candy canes.
Remember joy, and wonder, and the happy times of your youth. All these memories that may bring a smile to your face, or even a tear to your eye.
Those were halcyon days where life may well have been a lot simpler, before car payments, mortgages, and 1040s, when you got up to go to elementary school instead of facing another rush hour commute to a dull, gray cubicle. You know, when the doctor might offer you a sucker, and you could do crayon drawings on the menu at your favorite restaurant.
Now imagine those being something other than simply memories. Imagine if you could head off to elementary school now, experience the seasons as you once did, and enjoy a simpler time in your life once again. Imagine that Summer need not end, because the sky will always be blue, with a few wispy clouds some 140 meters over your head.
Imagine too that any bad that may cloud those memories could be somehow lessened, with a sheen of adult experience allowing you to avoid your own errors, while a bevy of other tools can help prevent any ills you may have suffered during your childhood.
Finally, imagine if, as a kid, you could fly, teleport to places far and wide, and make whatever play thing you desire.
This is the life of a child in Second Life. Now, is it any surprise why one might choose it?
